The Short Sword is by far the shortest sword in the game and will require some close combat to get some hits in. It also deals the least amount of damage compared to the upcoming weapons on the list. It can, however, be used by any build that a player decides to go for and can be made to scale off almost any stat except for luck. As an added bonus, players can use this weapon to create the Morion Blade.
A lot of weapons can be obtained early on, more so if a player happens to have pre-ordered the game. Demon’s Souls is set in the cursed kingdom of Boletaria where a powerful demonic entity known as The Old One unleashes a deathly black fog that begins to engulf all of the land. A host of other demons and unholy creatures also appear, destroying the living and turning them into soulless monsters. The Penetrator Set is perhaps one of the most difficult armor sets to acquire in the game. If you want to don this armor set, you’ll have to solve the most intricate secret placed in the game by Bluepoint Games.

Players quickly noticed a new, mysterious door that wasn’t in the original game. Through some photo mode trickery they’ve discovered there’s an item inside but unlocking it is still a mystery. Here’s another gameplay trailer showing boss fights with the Armor Spider and Flamelurker with a bit of exploration in between. The Mace is useful for those who want to dip their toes into a Faith Build.
The Chest is located in World 1 – 2, behind where you located Ostrava. The Legs are in 1 – 4, behind the area where the Blue Dragon is. These bosses may be the scariest that FromSoftware has ever designed. Dark Souls 3 is similar to its predecessors in that it’s challenging action RPG with a vague story. This is all to say that even though FromSoftware’s contribution to Demon’s Souls is well appreciated, it, alongside Bloodborne, where always Sony projects.

The game is still incredibly challenging, but it does alleviate the pressure a little bit. There are even more things preventing a Demon’s Souls sequel, primarily that the demand for a follow-up isn’t all that high in the grand scheme of things. While devout players are quite outspoken about a second installment, there’s easily more demand for something like Bloodborne 2 that faces identical hurdles. If FromSoftware and Sony were ever to reboot an old IP, Demon’s Souls isn’t even at the top of the list.
Even if the remake never gets a PC port, you can at least play the original via emulation, with greatly improved resolution and framerate. That might be the case for any of Sony’s first-party games, but we have ample evidence that From Software’s RPGs are hugely popular. The first Dark Souls alone sold millions of copies on PC, and the series has only gotten bigger since. What makes Sony’s slip-up more perplexing is that, as recently as August 2020, the company expressed interest in more PC ports of its console exclusives. “We will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform in order to promote further growth in our profitability,” Sony’s 2020 corporate report states.
The swamp features pretty simple boss fights, but the areas themselves are a nightmare. I recommend saving those swamps for last — and saving the Penetrator for last. He’s a tough, tough boss that can’t be beaten without a little serious battle experience.
After that, I simply lost the will to sit and wait for multiplayer in general unless I was coordinating with a friend. One other area that Demon’s Souls obviously benefits by virtue of being on a console with an SSD is a substantial reduction in load times. Rarely will you ever wait more than five seconds in between deaths or while teleporting to a new location before you’re back in the action. S8 can’t overstate how huge this is for a game like Demon’s Souls, in which you’re expected to die over and over again and also to repeatedly reset a level for the purpose of farming. There’s still an annoyingly common tendency to use a shove attack when I don’t mean to, and I wish the developers had done something to better explain World Tendency to newcomers.
In September 2021, a list of games in Nvidia’s GeForce Now database leaked, seemingly revealing a pile of yet-to-be-announced games, including many from Sony. Nvidia claimed the games on the list were purely speculative, but since September at least 10 games from the list have been revealed. It’s possible some others will be canceled before ever being made public, of course, but the list is definitely legit. Though somewhat stylistically uneven, Demon’s Souls PS5 manages to capture the spirit of the original game.
The player is tasked in defeating demons with the help of the Maiden in Black, and save the kingdom of Boletaria. Regardless, Demon’s Souls’ incredible boss fights, fantastic world design, and brilliant use of the series’ multiplayer concepts have not aged a day. Another one of the standard swords in the game, but who ever said that standard was bad?
